Our first Asian Art sale of the season presents a distinguished selection of Chinese ceramics spanning the Song to Qing dynasties, led by the Santos Collection of early wares. Carefully assembled over many years, the collection reflects a connoisseurial approach to form, glaze and material, with a particular emphasis on Song and Yuan dynasty ceramics.

At the heart of the sale is a refined group of Song to Yuan wares, celebrated for their restrained elegance, balanced proportions and subtle glaze effects. These ceramics embody aesthetic ideals that were deeply admired within both Chinese and Japanese traditions and later proved influential on British studio pottery in the twentieth century.

The catalogue includes rare and finely preserved examples of Longquan, Yaozhou and Jun wares, alongside richly textured Jizhou and Jian bowls. Together, these works offer a considered survey of early Chinese ceramic production, highlighting regional kiln traditions and the technical sophistication achieved during this formative period. The sale is further complemented by Ming and Qing dynasty ceramics, including notable blue and white pieces that reflect the evolution of imperial taste and export demand.
