Chiswick Auctions is pleased to present The Second Life collection: nine one-of-a-kind pieces of contemporary design created by Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) scholars, now offered at auction for the first time. These works, each incorporating luxurious Zoffany fabrics, were originally part of a collaborative exhibition held by Zoffany and QEST, celebrating the repurposing of textiles through exceptional craft.
The project follows the acclaimed WOW!house showhouse event at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, where Zoffany and designer Benedict Foley collaborated on an immersive entrance hall installation. For The Second Life, nine QEST scholars were invited to reinterpret leftover fabrics from that project. The materials, woven using traditional techniques by one of Suffolk’s last working silk mills and dye houses, have been transformed into vibrant new artworks, each reflecting the skill and creativity of British craft.
This dramatic headboard repurposes Sanderson’s Long Gallery Brocade, its richly baroque gold, turquoise and red embroidery made using sustainably sourced threads. A striking piece of decorative art.
Milliner Virna Pasquinelli created this hat, titled 'Twisted Perspective'. Estimate £3,000 - £5,000.
Renowned milliner Virna Pasquinelli brings avant-garde couture to the sale with this sculptural hat, formed from wire and embellished with intricate beadwork, embroidery and cascading tassels. Created using both digital and traditional methods.
All nine pieces will be offered in the Design: Modern Contemporary sale at Chiswick Auctions on 12 December, with proceeds going directly to support QEST and the artists.
This auction offers collectors, designers and supporters of British craftsmanship a unique opportunity to acquire a work of design excellence while contributing to the future of heritage craft.
