Exceptional 10.51 Carat Burmese Ruby Ring

Sells for more than 18 times its pre-sale estimate at Chiswick Auctions

A rare and important 10.51 carat natural Burmese ruby and diamond ring achieved an outstanding result at auction, realising £462,500 including buyer’s premium in our Jewellery sale on 17 September. The ruby, offered from a private European estate, was originally estimated at £25,000 to £35,000. The final price, more than 18 times the low estimate, set a new house record for Chiswick Auctions.

Accompanied by two independent gemological reports confirming its natural origin and unheated status, the ruby attracted fierce international competition. The ring eventually sold to an undisclosed buyer on the telephone.

Why Burmese Rubies Are So Highly Valued

Rubies are found across the globe, but those from Mogok in Upper Burma (Myanmar) are considered the most desirable. Often referred to as the "Valley of Rubies", this region is famed for producing stones of exceptional colour and clarity. Rubies of over 5 carats are already considered rare, and unheated rubies of more than 10 carats are exceptionally scarce.

The ruby in this ring displayed the deep red hue and brilliance typical of stones from this legendary region. Its combination of origin, carat weight, and natural, untreated state made it particularly attractive to serious collectors and connoisseurs.
