Chiswick Auctions is delighted to welcome London-based interior designer Adam Bray to select five highlights from the forthcoming Design sale.
Known for creating layered, characterful interiors, Adam brings together historic and contemporary pieces with an assured approach to colour, material and atmosphere. During more than three decades in practice, he has worked on residential, commercial and development projects in the United Kingdom and internationally, including interiors for the original Annabel’s group of clubs and the refurbishment of the lobby at Vogue House.
Alongside his interior design studio, Adam runs a shop and gallery in Camden offering an evolving collection of antique and vintage furniture, textiles, lighting and decorative objects.
Here, he shares his five selections from the August sale.
Sigurd Lewerentz (Swedish, 1885-1975), Gemla Armchair
Designed by one of Sweden’s most influential modern architects, this armchair combines a strong sculptural presence with the understated functionality associated with Scandinavian design.

Ristomatti Ratia (Finnish, b.1941) for Treston
'Palaset' modular storage system
Created by Finnish designer Ristomatti Ratia, the ‘Palaset’ system is a versatile example of space-age modular design. Its geometric form and adaptable construction make it as practical today as it was when first introduced.
Tom Dixon CBE (British, b.1959)
Prototype Flexible Screen
An experimental work by one of Britain’s best-known contemporary designers, this prototype screen reflects Tom Dixon’s interest in materials, structure and industrial processes.
The Design sale brings together more than 300 lots of twentieth- and twenty-first-century furniture, lighting, decorative arts, studio ceramics and British studio glass.
Highlights include the second instalment of the collection of author and Jean-Michel Frank and COMTE specialist Mo Amelia Tietenbaum, featuring furniture and lighting by both designers. The sale also includes works by Fontana Arte, Gio Ponti, Josef Frank, Joe Colombo, Bruno Mathsson, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, and a bespoke charred-oak and bronze dining suite by Valentin Loellmann.
The ceramics section features leading names including Jennifer Lee, Gordon Baldwin, Carol McNicoll, Richard Slee, Richard Batterham, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie and William Marshall, alongside British studio glass by Peter Layton, Louis Thompson and Paul Barcroft.
