BRITISH PORTRAITURE INTEREST, 1850s - 1900

An album comprising albumen print cartes-de-visite and early silver prints (64), image sizes 8.5 x 5.4cm (smallest) to 15 x 10cm (largest). Subjects and studios include: a group portrait by John R. Stringer, Sunderland; a baby girl holding a racket by A&G Taylor, Stockton on Tees; an interesting portait of two men working on a construction site by A.Y. Clark, Sunderland; an half lenght portrait of a man in an elegant suit holding a cigar by S.J. Preist, Barrow in Furness; a young man sitting on a rock by P. Fairclough, Newcastle; and others. Notably, the album also includes an albumen print depicting a man next to a reflecting telescope, design pioneered by Isaac Newton, and possibly related to the Royal Society.
