A VERY FINE ANTIQUE SILK KASHAN PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The ivory field with flowering vase, flowering and leafy vine flanked by single column at each side supporting deep blue mihrab. In light raspberry-red border of polychrome palmettes, arabesques and flowering vine between aqua, sandy-yellow and blue floral meander stripes. Outer arrow-head and plain stripes, approx: 200cm. x 126cm. Classic for this type with very good design and colour combination. This rug has slight wear to the pile, down to knot collar in few places. Otherwise, good pile. Very soft lustrous silk quality. Salvages original with touches of wear. Ends with short fringes, slight fraying on guard stripes. Very fine weave, approx: 8 x 9 knots per sq. cm woven on silk foundation. In general this rug is in good usable conditon. Attractive and popular type.
