Provenance:

Property of a private collector of Dutch Decorative Arts

Notes:

The firm Wed. [widow] N.S.A. Brantjes & Co was founded in 1895 in Purmerend (near Amsterdam), when the company applied for a licence to turn what had previously been a brick factory into a decorative pottery factory. Egbert Estie, the artistic director, brought in designers and painters (as he later did with the South Holland or Zuid-Holland factory at Gouda in 1897). The factory only existed for a nine years but produced a diverse range of pottery.
