Aviwe Plaatjie is a South African painter and printmaker based in Cape Town. He is self-taught, having been introduced to drawing in childhood by his mother and later refining his printmaking skills through mentorship. Plaatjie’s work often captures intimate moments within his community—featuring family, friends, and neighbors in everyday settings. He is known for his use of richly patterned backgrounds and a strong focus on fabrics, textures, and posture. In 2021, he held his first solo exhibition, titled Makwande, which his work was exhibited at, and his work has since been acquired by prominent public collections.
