Of rectangular form upon four shaped feet. The glazed sides with Goodall and Son company playing cards; Henry III as Hearts, George IV as Prince of Wales as Spades, Robert Dudley Earl of Leicester as Diamonds, Philippa of Hainault as Clubs. Hinged lid to reveal a spring Moroccan leather lined divided interior. Fully and part-marked.

Notes:Charles Goodall and Son, established in London in the early nineteenth century, became one of Britain’s most prolific manufacturers of playing cards. The firm was known not only for the quality of its printing and card-finishing but also for a series of commemorative and ‘Historic Playing Cards’ issued in the late Victorian period.
