Sir Henry Arthur Blake meeting the local gentry, 1899

Albumen print, image size 15.4 x20cm, pasted down onto period card, card size 23.5 x31.5cm, with manuscript caption in ink upper margin, depicting the meeting at Ping Shan between the Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Henry Arthur Blake (1840-1918) and the elders of the New Territories communities. The meeting followed the end of the Six-Day War (April 1899), at which the Governor explained the new principles of government. Standing next to Sir Henry Arthur Blake is Sir James Stewart Lockhart (1858-1937), who was a British colonial official in Hong Kong and China for more than 40 years.
The print is mis-captioned in the upper margin.
