An interesting album of approx. 180 albumen prints, image size 9.3 x5.8cm (smallest) to 17 x12cm (largest), pasted down onto album pages recto/verso, overall measuring 34.5 x27cm, featuring portraits of various ethnic groups across the world. Subjects include portraits of people of Ceylon, by Pierre Petit (1831-1909), numbered in ink lower margin, such as Devil-Dancers most in traditional ceremonial costumes; male dancers wearing the traditional Ves costume of Kandyan dance; group portraits of men and women living in a village, possibly Sinhalese; portraits of Asante people (modern Ghana); nude portraits of Khoikhoi women of Southern Africa, and a half-length portrait of Khoikhoi men, by Prince Roland Napoleon Bonaparte (1858-1924); a group of 15 prints, image size approx. 16 x12cm, by Emmanuel Flamant (1829-1897), showing the Cossacks in individual and group portraits, riding horses or playing instruments, wearing traditional clothing, possibly during the exhibition at the Jardin Zoologique d'Acclimatation in Paris; including also 36 prints featuring individual and group portraits of Sámi people (Scandinavia and North Russia) from a village, possibly in Norway.
