Boris Georgievich Korzhevsky was a prominent Soviet and Russian painter, graphic artist, and book illustrator known for his expressive style and depictions of everyday life. A graduate of the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow, he studied under renowned artists Sergei I. Grabar and Pyotr Konchalovsky. In the 1950s, he was part of the team that restored the monumental panorama Defence of Sevastopol and gained recognition for his vivid portraits of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara during his travels to Cuba in the early 1960s. Korzhevsky was an active member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and the Russian Academy of Arts, and he was honoured as an Artist of the Russian Federation. His works are held in major institutions, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and regional museums throughout Russia and the former Soviet states, reflecting his lasting impact on Soviet-era art and illustration.
