A cased Elizabeth II parcel gilt sterling silver travelling chess set

Comprising a silver mounted leather folding chest board. The chess pieces of stacking form around cylinders with end caps, one white the other gilt. Housed in a fitted case. Each marked throughout.

Case length – 21 cm / 8.25 inches

Weighable silver – 317g / 10.19 ozt

Notes:

The chess set was produced to commemorate the World Championship game between the American Bobby Fischer and the Russian Boris Spassky in 1972, of 650 copies. The set was designed by the film director Cyril Endfield (American, 1914-1995), whilst on the set of his film Zulu (1964). The sets were produced by the official silversmiths of the Royal College of Art.
