A selection of 8 albumen prints, image size 13.6 x11cm (smallest) to 22.4 x28cm (largest), pasted down onto album pages, card size 21 x18cm (smallest) to 30 x40cm (largest), most numbered in the negative, and captioned in ink lower margin; featuring images of Theran and members of the Qajar dynasty. Subjects include a portrait of Persian Shah Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (1831-1896) in a military uniform; a portrait of his son Mozaffar al-Din (1853-1907); various views of Tehran, including the Darvazeh Ghar (Cave Gate); Toopkhaneh Square and the Main Portal, Tehran; the West Gate, and the East Gate, Qazvin; The Shah Palace, Anzali (modern Bandar Anzali). Together with an albumen print, image size 17 x11.5cm, pasted down onto card, card size 21 x18cm, possibly by W. Orden (M. Hordet), depicting a man in traditional Persian clothing, smoking a Ghelyan, among others.

Dimitri Ivanovich Ermakov was a Russian photographer who pioneered photography in the Caucasus region. He traveled widely across Russia, Georgia, Crimea, and later Iran. His photographs documented regional costumes, daily life, the landscape, and historical landmarks. In 1874, Ermakov exhibited his works at the prestigious French Photographers Society’s 10th Photo Exhibition in Paris. Along with international recognition, this exhibition brought him to the attention of the Persian Shah Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, an avid amateur of photography, who appointed him as a court photographer.
