A pair of George III sterling silver goblets, London 1772 by Aaron Lestourgeon (first reg. alone 27th June 1771)

Of rounded circular form upon a pedestal circular base with a gadrooned edge. The lower section of the bowls with cast and applied stylised acanthus leaves. Gilt interiors. Each fully marked to the foot rim edge. (2)

Height – 14.7 cm / 5.8 inches

Weight – 595 grams / 19.13 ozt

This mark is now known to be that of Lestourgeon due to the survival of a meat skewer (private collection) which bears both this mark A.L in a rectangle (which is not recorded by Grimwade) and the mark with a mullet and standing cup (Grimwade 57). This mark for Lestourgeon would most likely also have been in the in the missing 1758-73 Largeworkers register.
