SIR WILLIAM JOHN NEWTON (BRITISH 1785-1869) A fine pair of portrait miniatures of Henry Hake Seward (d.1848) and his wife Katharine (née Beachcroft 1779-1847). He wearing a blue coat, white waistcoat and frilled cravat with gold tie pin; she, wearing white dress and with lace trim and pale blue shawl The former,  signed on the obverse and dated W.I.N. 1817 and on the verso Wm.J.Newton/ pinxit/ 33 Argyle St./ 1818; the latter signed on the obverse an dated W.I.N. 1818 Watercolour on ivory Both set in red travelling cases the lids with plaques engraved with sitters names He, oval, 73mm high; she, rectangular, 77 mm high Provenance: By family descent; Bonhams 24th June 2004, lot 167; Private collection, UK. Footnote: There are three watercolours by Henry Hake Seward in the Sir John Soane's Museum, London. Both Henry and Katherine are buried at West Wickham.  This lot is subject to CITES
