Partially printed document signed ('Edward R.I.'), addressed to Major Richard Makdougall Brisbane Francis Kelly and appoints him to "be a Member of Our Distinguished Service Order", further authorising him to "Have, Hold and Enjoy the said Dignity as a Member of Our said Order, together with all and singular the Privileges thereunto belonging or appertaining", countersigned at the foot by St John Brodrick (1856-1942), one page, with blind embossed blue paper seal affixed, some light age wear and minor creasing, folio, Sandringham, 22 June 1901.
***Brigadier General Richard Makdougall Brisbane Francis Kelly (1857-1915) served throughout the South African War 1899-1902, was appointed Chief Instructor at the School of Gunnery (1904-08) and lost his life serving with the Royal Artillery during World War I.
