A LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ MIRROR CASE WITH A PORTRAIT OF ALI, HASAN, AND HUSSAYN

Of typical rectangular shape, the mirror case painted, lacquered and heightened in gold, the front and back covers decorated with the standard gol-o-bolbol motif featuring a nightingale perched on a rose stem surrounded by smaller rosettes, lilacs, daisies, and hyacinths, a small butterfly just behind a large fully-blossomed rose, all set against a light amber background, framed within concentric decorative borders with stylised vegetal sprays, the interior of the front cover enhanced with the portrait of the Shi'a Imam Ali flanked by his two sons, Hasan and Hussayn, set against a light brown ground with golden floral scrolls, the centre of the interior of the back cover marked with a square golden stamp in crisp nasta'liq script reading Mohammad Javad Ayn ul-Rahi (?), likely the stamp of the atelier or artist, 29.4cm x 18cm.
