A George III sterling silver double inkstand, Sheffield 1817 by John & Thomas Settle (reg. Jan 1815)
The stand of rectangular form with rounded corners, the gadrooned rim with acorn and oak leaf shell embellishments, all raised on four lion paw and leaf bracket feet. The stand with two recessed wells, fitted with three square frames secured by pins, each with embossed decoration of acorns and oak leaves. Each frame with a square bodied cut clear glass bottle with silver mounts and detachable circular lids as ink wells and pounce pots, the circular lids with embossed frames of foliate scrolls and shells. Fully marked underneath, part-marks to lids and two bottle mounts, lion passant and makers mark to two frames, makers mark only to one, one bottle mount and retaining pins unmarked.
