AN OTTOMAN REVIVAL IZNIK-STYLE POTTERY VASE
France, late 19th century

Of pyriform shape, resting on a gently splayed circular foot, rising to narrow shoulders, a ringed cylindrical neck and an everted reinforced rim, painted in raised dark red, cobalt blue, turquoise and black outlines on a white ground, the exterior decorated with overlapping horizontal registers of interlocking split palmette sprays, rosettes, foliage and fretwork inspired by Ottoman Iznik wares, the interior painted in white, the base marked with a black Arabic sin letter, the signature of the French porcelain firm Samson, 28cm high.
