A George II sterling silver tankard, London 1751 by Richard Gurney and Thomas Cook (reg. 19th Oct 1727)

Of baluster form upon a spreading circular base, with applied central girdle. The double C scroll handle with heart shaped terminal leading to a double domed lid raised by a saddle scroll openwork thumbpiece. The body and lid with embossed decoration of flowers and foliate scrolls reserved with latticework, the front engraved with a presentation inscription reading “James Roughton Esq from Sir John and Lady Robinson 1874”. Gilt interior. Fully marked to base and inside of lid.
