A George III sterling silver tea caddy, London 1770 by William Abdy I (first reg. 24th June 1763)

Of inverted baluster form upon a spreading circular domed foot with a gadrooned edge. The pull off domed lid surmounted by a leafy finial above a chased rocaille calyx. The body with embossed Rococo decoration of splayed eagle atop of an asymmetrical foliate C scroll cartouche reserved with chased fish scale pattern, otherwise with floral swags adjoining to a vacant asymmetrical rocaille C scroll cartouche. Gilt interior. Fully marked underneath, the lid bezel with lion passant and makers mark only, each also with later French control mark.
