A PAIR OF POLYCHROME-PAINTED KUTAHYA POTTERY DISHES
Kutahya, Ottoman Turkey, late 19th century, signed Hilmi

Each of shallow rounded shape, resting on a short circular foot, with a gently everted rim, painted in bole red, ochre yellow, turquoise, cobalt blue, manganese purple, and black outlines on a white ground, the decoration on the interior consisting of a five-pointed stellar medallion made of intertwined saz leaves interspersed amidst rosette and vegetal sprays on a blue ground, scrolling vines against a white ground on the cavetto and rim, the exterior with four clusters of vegetal scrollwork, the base stamped in blue with the maker's signature Kutahya Hilmi, each 28.5cm diam.
