Cameron (Julia Margaret)

Cameron (Julia Margaret)

Autograph letter signed (‘Julia Margaret Cameron’) to Miss Ingelow, reading “It is no ordinary feeling of satisfaction that fills my being when I learn that you will come to me on Monday. Pray, pray do if the weather is fine and if your beloved mother is better. My sons have taught me that mothers go before everything. I am separated from them all but yet all our lives mingle and their love reaches and fills every moment of my life. I say also if the weather be fine (?) I will not have you cross on a wet and wicked day. The [island?] deserves its name in fine weather and I can’t have your first impressions adverse, or have you tossed about before reaching a friend who desires to give you rest and sunshine and happiness – and the portrait needs the sunshine. Also I daresay you know dear Charles Turner’s [mounts??] in one he immortalized me in a sonnet on my photography, “The Sun Obeys Thy Gestures”. May he obey me and satisfy one with a likeness. Make some dear message from me acceptable to your mother. Tell her the portrait shall be of my best”, four pages, 8vo, 29 October 1874.
