The arms are for Paget

Given the cadence mark of a martlet for a fourth son and the lack of impalement, the most likely candidate for these arms would be Brigadier-General, the Hon. Thomas Paget (c. 1676 -1741), the son of Hon. Henry Paget and his second wife Mary O'Rorke. Henry had three sons with his first wife Anne Sandford (d.1683), daughter of Robert Sandford. Thomas was the grandson of Sir William Paget, 5th Lord Paget of Beaudesert (1609-1678) and therefore first cousin to Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge (1663-1743) [est. 19th Oct 1714].

Thomas held the office of Groom of the Bedchamber in 1727 and was Governor of Minorca. He married Mary Whitcombe (d.1740/41) was the daughter of Peter Whitcombe (d.1704) possibly around 1715. Their daughter Caroline (after 1715? – 1766) married Sir Nicholas Bayly, 2nd Bt of Placenewyd, co. Anglesey, Wales (1709-1782) on the 19th April 1737. Their son became Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge [second creation] (1744-1812), Lord-Lieutenant of Anglesey in 1782. His son became the famed Field Marshal Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey (1768-1854). A large amount of Anglesey family silver was dispersed in the 1940’s/50’s, including Sotheby's London, 8 April 1954 for elements of the Anglesey service by Parker and Wakelin.

Incidentally, Mary Whitcombe is the 8th great grandmother to Prince William Duke of Cambridge.

Estimated at £8,000 - £12,000
