A George III sterling silver tea caddy, London 1796 by Peter and Ann Bateman

Of shaped, scalloped oval form, the hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable shaped lobed finial. The body and lid with engraved dotted bands. The front engraved with a crest of the head of Hercules wearing a lion skin above the initial G, the reverse with a coat of arms. Fitted with a lock mechanism, untested key deficient. Fully marked underneath, part-marked to the lid.

Length – 14.7 cm / 5.75 inches

Weight – 436 grams / 14.02 ozt
