TWO IMPORTANT OTTOMAN DIPLOMATIC FIRMANS BESTOWING HONOURS OF THE CHIVALRY ORDER OF THE MEDJIDIE TO THE FRENCH DIPLOMAT AMÉDÉE OUTREY (1892 - 1962)
PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ENGLISH BIBLIOPHILE
Ottoman Turkey, dated 2 December 1853 and 8 September 1866
Comprising two Turkish manuscripts on cream paper, the earlier folio with 4ll. of black ink diwani script beneath the elegant tughra of Sultan Abdulmejid I (r. 1839 - 1861) in gold, the text conferring the third class Order of the Medjidie on Amédée Outrey in Constantinople (Istanbul), dated 1 Rabi ul Awwal 1270 AH (2 December 1853); and another, similar, from Sultan Abdulaziz (r. 1861 - 1876) conferring on the same French diplomat the second class Order of the Medjidie, with 3ll. of black ink diwani script beneath the tughra of the Ottoman sultan in gold, dated 28 Rabi’ Ul Akhar 1283 AH (8 September 1866), the official translation of the firman in French dated 12 September 1866, and stamped Ambassade De France A Constantinople, signed M. M. Delaporte, attached to the verso of the latter firman with a plastic window, both firmans mounted on white cardboard frames, the folios 55.8cm x 35cm and 56.3cm x 36.5cm, 68cm x 46cm including the mounts.
