A set of four William IV sterling silver wine coasters, London 1836 by Joseph Angell I and John Angell I

Each of waisted circular form with cast husk shell and S scroll rims. The bodies with pierced decoration of scrolls. Silver interiors, wooden inset bases. Each engraved to the interior with an quartered coat of arms with an escutcheon for a baronet impaling another, reserved with foliage and scroll, the motto below Aides Dieu, surmounted by twin crests of a demi-bear rampant, muzzled and collared and an eagle upon a mount, close, all within a band of rocaille C scrolls and foliage reserved with lattices. Each fully marked. (4)

Diameter – 15.7 cm / 6.15 inches (one slightly larger), others 14.4 cm / 5.62 inches

The arms are for Mill quartering Barker, impaling Swinburne

Sir John Barker-Mill, 1st Baronet (4 December 1803 – 20 February 1860)

Born John Barker in accordance to the last will and testament of his maternal uncle Sir Charles Mill (1765-1835), he took the additional name of Mill by Royal Licence on 8 May 1835. The Reverend John Barker-Mill was created a Baronet of Mottisfont in the County of Southampton on 16 March 1836. Barker-Mill died at Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire in 1860. He married Jane Swinburn (c. 1798–1884) daughter of Col. William Swinburn on 14 August 1828.

His canteen of 1836 by Mary Chawner engraved with these crests was sold these rooms, 30 Oct 2020, lot 287 (£13,750 incl. prem)

A Warwick vase of 1845 by John Samuel Hunt award to Sir John Barker-Mill was sold these rooms, 3 March 2022, lot 420 (£40,000 incl. prem)
