A FARMAN FROM FATH ALI SHAH QAJAR (R. 1797 - 1834) TO HIS THIRD PRIME MINISTER, NIZAM AL DOWLEH HAJJI MOHAMMAD HOSSEIN KHAN FARIMI, SADR-E ESFAHANI (1771 - 1823)

Persian manuscript on pale blue paper with a dated watermark 1819, with 8ll. of black ink shikasteh nasta’liq script to the folio, the deed conferring an annual payment of 12 tumans in cash to Mirza Sharif Al-Din Ahmad, and appointing him the Deputy Minister of Isfahan, the seal of Fath Ali Shah Qajar beneath a bismillah in gold, the top right of the document with an elaborate religious phrase marking the auspicious opening, the text by a scribe except for the amount inserted by the solicitor’s hand and initialed, the verso with 14 seals and signatures, framed, between two sheets of glass, the document 42.5cm x 33.5cm, 45.8cm x 37.2cm including the frame.

Provenance: Purchased in the London auction market in the 1990s.
