A wine with an idiosyncratic story. Both a 150 year old family champagne house and a contemporary hip-hop icon. Jay-Z purchased large shares in the business from the mid-2000’s, with the wine featuring prominently in the music video for his 2005 hit ‘Show Me What You Got’. In 2006, Frederic Rouzaud, the president of Champagne Louis Roederer, derided the use of their prestige cuvée Cristal as a status symbol by rappers of the era, Jay-Z led a successful industry boycott of the Grande Marque, subsequently gaining huge publicity for his own champagne venture at the same time.
