Born in New York, Lester Bookbinder trained with the photographer Reuben Samberg before opening his own studio in 1955. The Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Wakabayash professionally known as Hiro first worked with Bookbinder in Samberg,s studio., Working in all areas of commercial photography including advertising and fashion, Bookbinder moved to London at the dawn of the swinging sixties and was a regular and influential contributor to British Vogue.
