A Queen Anne Britannia standard silver table fork, London probably 1709 by John Broake (reg. 8th July 1699)
Hanoverian pattern, three pronged. Together with a George II sterling silver three prong fork, London 1754 probably by William Turner (reg. 21st June 1754). Each engraved with a crest of a stork a top a stump, Ducally gorged, one later to match. Each fully marked. (2)
Queen Anne length – 19 cm / 7.5 inches
George I length – 20.2 cm / 7.9 inches
Weight - 120 grams / 3.86 ozt
The crest is for Bankes, of Winstanley Hall, Wigan. Owned by the Bankes family from 1596, the Hall underwent several developments in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Bankes family retained ownership until the 21st century.
A cream jug of circa 1750 engraved with widow's arms are for Bankes impaling Morgan for Robert Bankes (1699 - 1748) and Catherine Morgan (b.1698), who were married on the 20th January 1729, was offered in these rooms 21 June 2023, lot 455.
