Opaque pigments and gold on paper, the vertical composition depicting the first Shi'a Imam 'Ali with hands crossed over his double-edged sword, the Zulfiqar, seated next to his young sons in the act of learning, with young fawn reflective of their character, set in scrolling border, the outer calligraphic border with greetings and titles for the Prophet and the Twelve Shi'a saints, as well as Fatima, all in flowing blue naskh script, laid on card, within later blue and orange ruling, 26.5cm x 16.5cm, 35.5cm x 26.5cm including the mount.
