A LARGE HISPANO-MORESQUE REVIVAL COPPER-LUSTRE POTTERY CHARGER
Attributed to Ulisse Cantagalli, Florence, Italy, mid to late 19th century
Of typical deep cylindrical shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to a wide everted moulded rim with raised oblong ridges filled with roundels, floral designs and fish-scale pattern, painted in blonde copper lustre against a white ground, the basin's centre with a cusped European blazon with a rampant lion, surrounded by concentric decorative circular bands filled with stylised star roundels, fish-scale patterns, flowers and abstract designs, the cavetto with similar motifs, the exterior of the base ridged and decorated with analogous designs and the back of the rim with stylised vegetal bands, the base marked with a cobalt blue rooster and a golden abridged signature 'CG' (maker's stamp), 51.5cm diam.
