Spain, 19th century

Of rectangular shape, carved and polychrome-painted, the relief replicating a Moorish architectural facade inspired by the Nasrid fortress and palace complex of the Alhambra in Granada, Andalusia, the architecture characterised by repeating polylobed arches flanked by polychrome star and geometric tiles on the lower wall panels, and heavily ornate exterior stucco walls enhanced with dense intertwined foliate arabesque patterns, intricate knotwork and geometric designs, repeated pseudo-calligraphic bands in knotted Kufic script, and a panel repeating the name of Allah, signed at the base no. 7, Enrique Linares Es Propiedad, within the arches two oval windows once probably filled with black and white photographs now missing, set within a wooden frame lined in madder red velvet cloth, the plaster relief 31cm x 18.5cm, 45cm x 32.5cm including the frame.
