A Nicholas II late 19^th / early 20^th century Russian 84 zolotnik parcel gilt silver cigar box, Saint Petersburg 1898-1903 by Nikolay Fedorovich Kemper (active 1892-1908)

Of rectangular form with a hinged lid, the body with a gilt and engraved band to resemble the trade label of a cigar box, with an applied imperial eagle probably later, otherwise with a satinised surface. Gilt interior. Marked with kokoshnik for Yakov Nikolayevich Lyapunov (active 1898-1903) and maker’s mark HK (Postnikova 1360), the base bezel with later soviet era control marks for Moscow 1927-58, the interior base with two further obscured later control marks.
