A large George IV antique sterling silver provincial twin handled trophy / cup and cover, Birmingham 1824 by Samuel Haines
Of campana form with fluted decoration to lower half, the circular base with trailing chased oak leaf and acorn decoration, the twin handles with acanthus junctions and decoration. The lid of gently conical form with egg and dart border surmounted by a plain finial. Gilt interior. Fully marked to the shoulder and part-marked to the base rim and lid flange. Inscribed underneath foot rim ‘S. HAINES. FECIT 15 NEW ST. BIRMINGHAM.’

Weight – 2605 grams / 83.75 ozt
Samuel Haines was registered his mark in February 1822 There are some stylistic similarities between this cup and cover and an example of 1810 by Mathew Boulton in the Birmingham Assay Office collection, including the egg and dart border to the cover.
