A German mahogany dressing table, circa 1920s

with campaign style brass fittings, the top folding out to reveal a fully fitted interior, including a triptych mirror with bevelled mirror plates in silver plated frames, a pair of tan fitted compartments which swing out to reveal a tan fitted interior, a pair of curved glass shelves which fold out to reveal a glazed and fitted section, over a pair of short drawers with brass swing handles, on a pair of brass inlaid square section legs, joined by stretchers, the interior with the original 800 standard silver contents by Wagner & Sohn, including brushes, a mirror, jars, combs, a manicure set and curlers, all silver parts engraved 'Rz'.

Provenance:

Provenance: Previously owned by Elsa Regendanz (née Engelbrecht) 1890-1990, born in Berlin, Germany. 2nd wife of Wilhelm Regendanz (1882-1955 British-German banker), a close friend and adviser of former German Chancellor Kurt Von Schleicher, who was murdered by the Nazi party on June 30th 1934 during the Rohm Putsch, Wilhelm and Elsa Regendanz fled to Britain shortly after learning of the murder of his friend and after witnesing the attempted arrest of former minister Gottfried Treviranus by the SS.

This item was then sold at Chiswick Auctions, 8th December 2024, Interiors, Homes & Antiques Auction. The current owner is now re-offering due to downsizing.
