AN INDIAN BRONZE ELEPHANT HEAD-SHAPED PALANQUIN FINIAL (PALKI)
India, 17th - 18th century
In the shape of an elephant with raised trunk, with an open mouth revealing fangs and tusks, bulging eyes, two-lobbed ears, and a drop-shaped ornament on the forehead, the lateral fangs almost reminiscent of mythological ‘makara’ creatures, 20cm high.
