The letter, addressed to Evelyn Lillian Haseldine Carrington, Countess Martinengo-Cesaresco, reads "I am very sorry to say that I have an engagement in Oxford on May 23rd and it is not possible for me to accept your invitation to lunch on the same day. Thanking you for your kindness", one page, some age-related discolouration, 8vo, 37 Alfred Place West, South Kensington, 20 May 1913.

***Contessa Evelyn Martinengo-Cesaresco was a prominent Italian historian and writer on folksong at the end of the nineteenth/early twentieth century.
