Léopold Survage was a French painter of Russian-Finnish origin who played a notable role in the early 20th-century avant-garde movement. Initially influenced by Symbolism and Cubism, Survage developed a distinctive visual language that fused abstraction with lyrical rhythm and vibrant color. In Paris, he worked alongside and was associated with key modernist figures such as Amedeo Modigliani, Fernand Léger, and Guillaume Apollinaire.
