A late 19th century Ottoman Turkish silver dish, circa 1870, Tughra of Sultan Abdul Aziz (r.1861-76)

Of shaped rectangular form with engraved decoration to the corners of foliate scrolls. The centre with engraved initials A J in flourished cursive script, all surmounted by the Khedive of Egypt’s crown. Marked twice to field with tughra and sah marks (post-1844).

Length – 21.7 cm / 8.55 inches

Weight – 422 grams / 13.57 ozt

A possibility for the initials is Prince Ali Jamal Pasha son of Khedive Isma'il Pasha (r. 1863-1879) and one of his consorts Jamal Nur Qadin (d.c. 1876)
