A Victorian parcel gilt sterling silver sugar bowl, London 1880 by Henry John Lias & James Wakely

Of hemispherical form upon a circular spreading foot. With aesthetic style engraved decoration of bamboo stalks and leaves with a tree superimposed with vignettes, one of hexafoil form with a sunset, the other with a bird and geometric patterns. All against a satinised ground. Engraved initials to the front H.R within EB in gothic script heightened with fine engraved scroll work. The obverse engraved with a crest of a catamountain sejant gardant, collared and chained, encircled in a motto un roy une foy une loy. Gilt interior. Fully marked underneath and with numeral 533.

The crest and motto are for Burke, as borne by the Baronets of Marble Hill, Galway, Ireland (est.1797)

The initials are possibly for Elizabeth Mary Burke (d. 1918) who was the first wife of Sir Gerald Howe Burke, 7th Bt (1893-1954), they were married on Dec 23rd 1914, where they has issue; Sir Thomas Stanley Burke, 8th Bt (1916-1989).

Marble Hill was destroyed by malicious fire in 1921 during the Troubles.
