Ansel Adams (1902-1984)
MATTERHORN, SAWTOOTH RANGE, c.1934. Vintage silver gelatin print, flush-mounted to card, image size 16.5 x 21cm, card size 23.5 x 30.5, signed and titled by the photographer in pencil lower margin recto, further annotated 'Ansel Adams' in an unknown hand in ink verso.
The present view aligns with the size and tonal range of images previously published by Adams during his early years as the official photographer of the Sierra Club's annual 'High Trip', most notably his 1934 image of fellow Club members climbing Blacksmith Peak at the terminus of the Sawtooth Ridge, High Sierras.
Gifted to the present owner by Herb Quick, who received this print from Ansel Adams.
