Omara circa 1930, signed Abed Al Jabbar
An early 20th century Iraqi silver and niello four-piece tea service

Comprising a teapot, a sugar bowl, two milk jugs. Each of rounded and panelled form. Niello decoration various of the Taq Kasra (Ruins of Ctesiphon), Abu Hanifa al in Nu'man, Baghdad, the Tomb of Ezra, dhow sailing boats with palm trees, camel and riders, boatmen in a gufa and mashoof. Each with niello initials VR in cypher to the side. Each signed Amal’e Abed Al Jabbar (the work of Abed al Jabbar). (4)

Teapot length – 22.5 cm / 8.85 inches

Weight – 941 grams / 30.25 ozt

Notes:

a slight difference in the initials demonstrates that the second milk jug was commissioned to join the set.
