An early 20th century Anglo – Indian silver pedestal bowl, Kashmir circa 1930
Raj period. Of rounded circular form with a gadrooned rim, all upon a knopped pedestal foot. The body with chased decoration of shawl pattern, the foot with chased decoration of trailing foliage. The side with a shield shape cartouche engraved with the initials FS in cypher.
Height – 24.6 cm / 9.75 inches
Weight – 566 grams / 18.2 ozt
The initials are for Dr Francis Henry Albert Simmonds (1900-1971) a physician prominently involved with the fight against tuberculosis, he was Medical Superintendent and later Medical Director at Clare Hall Hospital since 1935.
