An early 20th century Austrian 800 standard silver three-piece tea service, Vienna circa 1925 by Rudolf Lammel retailed by Carl Heiss

Comprising a teapot, a milk jug, and a twin handled sugar bowl. Each in the neoclassical form, the teapot of hemispherical with a short spout opposite an ivory handle with a maiden head junction, the hinged flat dish lid surmounted by a detachable nowed serpent finial above a leafy calyx. The body with an embossed band of geometric scroll against a textured ground, the foot with stylised leaves. The milk and sugar of similar form with maiden head handles, gilt interiors. Each fully marked throughout, the teapot engraved underneath CARL HEISS WIEN KOHLMARKT 12. (3)

Teapot length – 24.6 cm/ 9.75 inches

Weight – 1284 grams / 41.28 ozt

This design is after George III silver by Benjamin Smith, an example of a teapot of 1807 is illustrated Brett, V. (1986). The Sotheby’s Directory of Silver 1600-1940. London: Philip Wilson. p. 208, Fig 1.
