A fine Chinese blue and white 'scholars' garlic-mouth vase, Qing dynasty, Kangxi period
清康熙 青花高士圖蒜頭瓶 青花《大明成化年製》楷書款

The finely potted vase with a bulbous body rising to a straight neck and a garlic-mouth shaped rim, the body richly decorated in underglaze-blue to depict a continuous figural scene of a scholar and his attendants alongside ladies, surrounded by a rocky garden landscape with rocky outcrops, banana trees and stylised clouds, the neck further-decorated with blossoming prunus branches and willow, the mouth with sprays of magnolias and chrysanthemums, the base bearing a Chenghua six-character mark in underglaze-blue
