A pair of George I Britannia standard silver pepper casters, London 1714 by Samuel Welder (first reg. 4th Aug 1714)
Of baluster form upon a circular domed foot, the bodies with an applied girdle. The removable domed lids with moulded edge, pierced decoration of shaped scroll work, surmounted by knop finials. Fully marked underneath and part-marked to lids. (2)

Welder, a specialist caster maker, was apprenticed to Robert Keble in 1707. First marked registered at Gutter Lane. These would have been made between 4t August 1714 and 29 May 1715.
