Doves Press.- Cobden-Sanderson (T.J.) Credo, FIRST EDITION, first issue, AUTHOR'S SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by “To Nannie with much affection. C. S. 18 August 1908”, minor spotting and toning to peripheral leaves, niger goatskin, upper board tooled with gilt title and circular wreath of arrow leaves and dots by The Doves Bindery 19 C-S 08, upper edge gilt, a little marked, extremities slightly rubbed, [Tidcombe DPE 89], Doves Press, Hammersmith, 1907. *** One of a very few copies printed for presentation to friends. Cobden-Sanderson printed it for publication the following year and destroyed all the remaining copies of this first issue, even his own. This work appears in Ransom and Tomkinson with the date of 1909, with a limitation of 250 copies on paper and 12 on vellum. This copy, dated 1907, carries no printed limitation. The text is dated 1906 (when he printed a broadside); the colophon is dated 1907. Tidcombe notes that Cobden-Sanderson’s bindings on the paper copies bear simply the title, without the circular ornamental wreath.
